On World AIDS Day in December 2025, the Olive Rights to Health Initiative (ORHI) team came together to reaffirm our commitment to the health, dignity and rights of everyone affected by HIV.

Nigeria has made progress, but new infections, funding gaps, service disruptions and barriers to care continue. These challenges threaten the national goal of ending AIDS by 2030. As an organisation focused on community-centred health and advocacy, we are taking ownership of sustaining the Nigerian HIV response, but we cannot do it alone.

We called on every stakeholder to act:

  • Government and policymakers: strengthen domestic funding, protect human rights, and ensure uninterrupted access to HIV testing, treatment and prevention.
  • Healthcare providers: maintain quality, stigma-free services for all.
  • Civil society and community organisations: keep leading outreach, education and grassroots support.
  • International partners and donors: uphold commitments and protect HIV programmes from harmful disruption.
  • Young people, women, key populations and advocates: speak up, demand accountability and champion inclusive services.

On the day, we also honoured the lives lost and recognised the progress made. Sustaining the response is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to a future where everyone has access to care and AIDS is ended in Nigeria.
