About ORHI

Health, human rights and community empowerment, since 2015

Olive Rights to Health Initiative is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental and non-political civil society organisation. We combine community-based services, advocacy, research, capacity strengthening and accountability to tackle the connected health and social challenges faced by marginalised people.

Our mission

Olive Rights to Health Initiative (ORHI) is dedicated to improving the health and social well-being of marginalized communities through empowerment, advocacy, research, and innovative health solutions. We uphold the principles of accountability and transparency in all our endeavors, working to expand equitable access to quality healthcare, enhance community resilience, and influence inclusive policies that advance dignity, justice, and sustainable development for all.

Our vision

To rebuild a world where everyone especially those from marginalized communities lives with dignity, equality, and accountability, enjoying optimal health and well-being through inclusive and transparent systems that foster empowerment, justice, and lasting community transformation.

Our story

From policy advocacy to a multi-sector platform

ORHI was registered on 20 November 2015 to contribute to policy and practice affecting the rights, health and development of marginalised people and people living with HIV. Its first tools were research, analysis, training, awareness campaigns and advocacy.

ORHI has since grown from general-population programming into a multi-sector organisation. It now delivers services directly, from TB and HIV case finding and community-led monitoring to mental health support, legal aid referrals and economic empowerment, with offices in Nasarawa, Abuja, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

We regard affordable, accessible, quality health care as a right. Our work links health with human rights, gender equality, economic resilience and community development, because structural barriers often decide whether people can get care, and stay in it.

Strategic direction

Our goal

To improve access to quality health and human-rights services for people at higher risk and other marginalised populations in Nigeria.

Strategic objectives

  1. 01Advocate for the health needs and fundamental rights of marginalised populations.
  2. 02Promote positive behaviour change, health literacy and risk reduction.
  3. 03Provide or facilitate access to integrated, people-centred health services.
  4. 04Strengthen support and protection for people living with HIV, survivors of violence and people experiencing rights violations.
  5. 05Generate and use evidence to improve programmes, policies and accountability.
  6. 06Build sustainable livelihoods and resilience among vulnerable individuals and households.
  7. 07Strengthen collaboration among communities, government, civil society, donors and service providers.
