In July 2025, to mark World Youth Skills Day, Olive Rights to Health Initiative (ORHI) launched a four-day workshop on economic empowerment and self-reliance for young women and girls most at risk in Nasarawa State. The workshop is a key part of our FEF-OSC 2025 project with Beam Community Development 360 Initiative (BCD360), funded by the Embassy of France in Nigeria, which promotes economic empowerment and access to health services for young women.

Many of the young women taking part have been excluded from education, employment and safe support systems. The workshop brought together 50 participants and covered both mental health awareness and economic empowerment, with the aim of opening pathways to self-reliance and dignity.

One participant said: “Before this training, I felt invisible and ashamed of my story. Now, I feel seen, empowered, and ready to start something new with the skills I've learned.”

Stakeholders from government, security agencies, civil society and religious bodies who engaged with the project also pledged their support. Sunday Emmanuel, the FEF-OSC 2025 Project Manager, described their commitment as a turning point that showed change is possible with the right approach.

We remain committed to building inclusive opportunities, free of stigma, for young women.
