In February 2024, Olive Rights to Health Initiative (ORHI) took part in a two-day partnership meeting under the Reducing Vulnerabilities project, working with Lawyers Alert and the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF). The training was titled “Advancing Capacity and Reducing Vulnerability in Nigeria”.

Day one was a capacity-building assessment meeting. Stakeholders included the National Human Rights Commission, APIN Public Health Initiative, the Legal Aid Council, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Ministry of Justice and the Nigeria Police Force.

Day two was dedicated to developing advocacy plans. Lawyers Alert, ORHI, IcevsNigeria, Hope Alive Health Awareness Initiative and grassroots organisations looked at state-specific issues and drafted strategies to address the challenges faced by key populations in Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States.

The plans target specific agencies and stakeholders. They call for the repeal of laws and guidelines that hold back progress on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in Nigeria.

We are grateful to EJAF and to all the partners and supporters of this work.
