In October 2025, Olive Rights to Health Initiative (ORHI) and Beam Community Development 360 Initiative (BCD360) began a series of art therapy sessions for young women in Nasarawa State. The sessions are part of our FEF-OSC 2025 project, funded by the Embassy of France in Nigeria, which supports young women’s economic empowerment and access to health services. Partners including Cognito supported the sessions.

We aim to reach 150 young women across the state, with 30 taking part in each session.

The first session brought 30 young women together in a safe space with brushes, paint and canvas. Art gave participants a way to express what can be hard to put into words, and the session focused on healing, confidence, self-worth and mental well-being. By the end of the session, silence had given way to laughter and conversation.

Alongside the painting, our team sat down with participants to listen to their reflections and hopes. These conversations mattered as much as the art itself: healing often starts with being heard.

The sessions continue as part of the project’s wider support for young women’s dignity and well-being.
