In January 2025, Olive Rights to Health Initiative (ORHI) paid an advocacy visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa State, where our team was warmly welcomed. The visit was part of the Advancing Capacity and Reducing Vulnerability in Nigeria project, delivered with Lawyers Alert and other community-based organisations (CBOs), with support from the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF).

Our discussion focused on the challenges key populations face because of their identity and health status, including stigma, discrimination and barriers to healthcare and justice.

The State Commandant reaffirmed the NSCDC's commitment to upholding human rights, stressing that every individual deserves protection regardless of their identity or health status.

The NSCDC Gender Focal Person also welcomed the opportunity to work with us to foster community stability and inclusion. Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen the HIV response, reduce stigma and make sure everyone can access safe and supportive services.

We will continue to advocate for policy change and for the protection of fundamental human rights in Nasarawa State.
